Hi Sarika, thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us! Firstly, please introduce yourself!
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for having me. I am a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Cloud Engineering, with focus on Energy Resources and Industries. I have lived, worked and traveled in many parts of the world. I am currently based in Houston, Texas.
What are you looking forward to at Women in Tech Texas?
This is my first time participating and speaking at Women in Tech Texas! I am delighted to be invited, and really looking forward to meeting and connecting with other women in tech and learning from the many interesting sessions planned along with the keynotes.
What can attendees expect from your session?
I’m really excited to be presenting my session on “How To Enable An Always-On Resilient Cloud Environment” which will be highly interactive! By attending, you’ll walk away with three clear takeaways – number one is to gain an understanding of shifts in the infrastructure and cloud technology, as an enabler for a world which people are always on. Number two is to prepare to enable your enterprise proactively, by identifying fit for purpose cloud resiliency capabilities where needed. Number three is to learn about shifts in infrastructure, traditional roles, and what organizational capabilities and technical competencies and skills will become a competitive advantage, so you can create an action plan for cloud resiliency.
When you think about our theme for 2023, The New Frontier, what excites you about the future in tech, business and/or leadership?
This is a very exciting time in the tech industry. The pace of change in tech, especially in the cloud is rapid, and there are opportunities to grow and add tools to your toolkit. So if you are excited about cloud, then you can build a wholesome and resilient career to become a part of this New Frontier.
What would you say to your younger self about pursuing a career in tech and the future of women in tech?
That’s a great question. When I was younger, there was just one type of cloud. Now there are several types, like Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Hybrid Clouds, and we are heading towards the world of Sky Computing. So I would just say don’t hold yourself back, challenge yourself beyond your world of capabilities. Who knows, you may surprise yourself!
What would be your one piece of advice to our attendees who might be feeling anxious about the insecurities of today?
Three things. Number one is every business has cycles with ups and downs. Number two is continue investing in your own capabilities and build a very strong network. But most importantly is to have a life outside of work to stay balanced.
Women in Tech Texas is built on community; what advice would you give to our attendees on building your network and furthering your presence?
I would say as a woman, support other women around you and build a network and find mentors. If you are an experienced woman, give back to the tech community as a mentor yourself.
