In Texas, over 203,700 people are employed by more than 17,600 technology companies, with companies like Apple and Wipro increasing on a daily basis. Texas’ long-established tech sector has invented everything from the transistor and hand-held calculator to a billion-dollar dating app. Here, entrepreneurs like Michael Dell, who founded Dell Technologies out of his dorm at the University of Texas at Austin, grow their businesses into Fortune 500 companies.

But can this compete with Silicon Valley, the birthplace of Technovation in the US, known to have some of the most innovative tech brands the Globe has seen? Some argue in time Texas will be seen as America’s next tech Mecca and here is why.

Tech talent is growing

Austin’s ascension as one of America’s top tech centres continues. Many believe it has According to CompTIA, Texas has the second highest number of IT employees in the United States. Texas is brimming with qualified professionals looking for their next adventure. The number of tech workers visiting Texas has reached an all-time high.

According to LinkedIn statistics from 2021, Texas is the most popular destination for IT workers caught up to Silicon Valley and may be recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic even faster than its California cousin. According to a survey released this month by the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Austin has recovered 96% of pandemic-related job losses from spring 2020. Silicon Valley isn’t performing badly in this area; however, California as a whole isn’t doing so well.

Texan technology is making a difference

Another key factor to consider is that the technology coming out of Texas is significant. The Texan tech ecosystems making a difference and we can see this by types of companies coming out of Silicone Hills. It is offering more than just the US’s next bit technology nexus, its offering solutions that can solve some of the worlds’ biggest problems. Take Houston for example. With oil and gas tackling climate change and the space-for-earth economy, Dallas being prolific for the telecoms industry solving connectivity in rural areas and Austin providing opportunities to connect that to the general public being more B2C high-tech software.

Collaboration will be key for its growth

The Texas technology market has advocated for cross collaboration across associations, business and government. Companies that encourage collaboration reap numerous rewards and it is evident that the sector has acknowledged this and is offering a thorough of cross collaboration opportunities to help promote the growth in the sector. Local government is advocating collaboration especially for the promotion of getting more Women in Tech into the workforce.

More people are relocating to Texas, and more Texans are being given better possibilities as tech businesses relocate to Texas and create more jobs, whether it’s because of the reduced cost of living, the lack of personal and corporate income taxes or more opportunities for work in tech. Keep your eye on the Texan tech scene as its one that could give Silicon Valley a run for its money.
