The run up to Women in Tech Texas is officially on! We spoke with one of our speakers, Asha Devasia, Vice President of EcoStruxture Power at Schneider Electric to hear more about what she’s looking forward to at Women in Tech Texas, her advice to other women in Technology and what the theme of resilience means to her!
Firstly, please introduce yourself
Hi everyone, my name is Asha Devasia, I’m Vice President of EcoStruxture Power at Schneider Electric. At Schneider Electric, we empower all to make the most of their energy and resources, and we do this by providing energy and automation digital solutions that drive efficiency in sustainability. I will be speaking at Women in Tech Texas about sustainability specifically and its impact on everyday businesses, as well as how to think about technology in order to drive sustainability.
What are you looking forward to at Women in Tech Texas?
I’m looking forward to two main things – first, is really building new connections and being able to connect with new individuals in the technology space in Texas and secondly, is really being able to understand some of the emerging technology and how my peers are applying that technology in their day to day business
What advice would you give to a woman looking to step up their career in tech?
I think the first thing I would say is really understand your strengths, understand what you bring to the table and bring that everytime you are at the table. I think you also have to be really aware of how your company is evolving, and how your industry is evolving and be prepared to evolve your skills accordingly. And that means really having a view of what’s going on around you and not staying focused with your head down day to day. So just being conscious of what you bring to the table and understanding that you’re going to have to evolve your skills as the industry and company evolves.
What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?
I think the biggest challenge for women today is to have the visibility to the opportunities that are available in new technology spaces and to be given that opportunity really requires you to have the visibility in order to be able to receive those opportunities. So I think that’s the biggest challenge and especially as we are in a hybrid virtual environment to be able to have the visibility is really a concerted effort that women have to really make sure to position themselves for the right roles in the organisation that can help them evolve their skills but also be able to establish a reputation in the technology space.
The theme of the event is Resilience, as a woman in tech, what does resilience mean to you?
For me it really is a state of mind and having the conviction to know that there are going to be challenges ahead and that you can take that uncertainty and drive outcomes. So resiliency really is a mindset but also the understanding that in order to be resilient you need to prioritise both, your physical and mental wellbeing. So resiliency is really a state of mind and something you have to be conscious of as well.
